Dr. Garth Christenson
Dr. Garth Christenson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, prior to receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree, cum laude, from the Illinois College of Optometry. He then completed a Residency in Children's Vision at the Southern California College of Optometry and remained at the college for five years, teaching and performing research. In 1988, Dr. Christenson earned his Master of Science in Education from California State University at Fullerton.
He has earned several awards and honors, including the Strawn Leadership Award, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, Outstanding Young Men in America, Who's Who in California and Who's Who in Health Care. He is also very active in the community as a member of Hudson Rotary, Trinity Lutheran Church, Community Action Group, and the Bridge Program for youth with special needs.
Dr. Christenson is a member of the American Optometric Association, Wisconsin Optometric Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development and has specialty status as a Binocular Vision Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry. He has lectured on topics of vision care and published over 20 articles in professional journals. He is co-author of a textbook on dyslexia and was awarded "best article of the year" by Optometry and Vision Development in 2005. Because of Dr. Christenson's experience in children's vision and learning, he has served as a consultant to the Minneapolis New Visions Charter School.
Dr. Christenson's background and experiences allow him to emphasize patient education. As a result of this willingness to explain conditions to his patients, he has become known as "the communicating doctor."
Dr. Micki Flynn
Dr. Micki Flynn obtained her Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She had clinical rotations which focused on ocular disease, pediatric optometry and primary eye care. She was salutatorian of her optometry class and president of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She also received several scholarships for clinical and academic excellence, including the Ira Schwartz Award for outstanding achievement in pediatric optometry.
After receiving her optometry degree, Dr. Flynn was chosen for the Pediatric and Binocular Vision Residency Program which provided her with extensive training at various hospitals and clinics in the Boston area. This year-long program enabled her to gain expertise in treating children's vision problems such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn) and visually related learning problems.
Dr. Flynn is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association. She volunteers her time and services as a provider for the InfantSEE Program which enables any infant less than 12 months of age to have access to a no-cost comprehensive eye exam. She has also been involved in volunteer optometry missions including a 5-day trip to Nicaragua to provide free eye exams and glasses to over 1500 people in underprivileged communities.
Dr. Flynn compliments Christenson Vision Care with strong academic and leadership qualities as well as a track record of compassion and caring for patients. Her education and experience make her a valuable and integral part of the Christenson Vision Care team.
Dr. Michael Herde
Dr. Herde is from La Crosse, Wisconsin where he earned his bachelor's degree from Viterbo University. He completed his doctorate degree at Indiana University School of Optometry.
While attending Indiana University School of Optometry, Dr. Herde was privileged to participate in a six-month clinical rotation at the nation's top ocular hospital, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, located in Miami, Florida where he obtained extensive disease training. In addition, Dr. Herde has experience in the areas of primary care, contact lenses, pediatrics, binocular vision and vision therapy.
Dr. Herde has recently relocated to the Hudson area with his wife, Ashley and their dog, Sophie. He is an avid golfer and enjoys outdoor activities in his spare time. Dr. Herde is very excited to bring his expertise to Christenson Vision Care and is looking forward to serving the eye and vision care needs of the Hudson community.
